University of Ibadan Honours Winner of the 2010 Commonwealth Regional Prize In Literature.




Notable for producing people of distinction, the University of Ibadan on Thursday, 15 July, 2010 hosted Miss Adaobi Tricia Nwaubani, winner of the 2010 Commonwealth Regional Prize in Literature at an event organized by the Department of English in honour of a distinguished alumna.


Miss Adaobi Tricia Nwaubani, who started writing at the age of 13, obtained a bachelor’s degree in Psychology in 1998. Her novel ‘I DO NOT COME TO YOU BY CHANCE’ has won a Betty Trask award, the Commonwealth Writers Prize for Best First Book in Africa, and was a Finalist for the Wole Soyinka Prize for Literature in Africa. The book was also named one of the Best Books of 2009 in Washington, USA.


The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Adigun Agbaje who chaired the event stated that the University is proud of Adaobi for all she has accomplished and that the University will continue to produce great men and women in the literary field. Also in attendance were Prof P.A. Ogundeji Dean of Arts, Prof Helen Osinowo, HOD of Psychology, Dr Remi Raji-Oyelade, HOD of English, Dr. Bola Udegbe Director, Office of International Programmes and a host of others.
