2011 COMMONWEALTH ACADEMIC STAFF FELLOWSHIPS

The Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the United Kingdom invites eligible candidates to apply for the 2011/2012 Commonwealth fellowships. These awards help individuals to pursue advanced academic study in other Commonwealth countries and consequently allow them to make significant contributions to their home countries when they return. These fellowships are available to academic staff in all disciplines.

Eligibility

To apply for these awards, candidates should:
i) Be Commonwealth citizens, refugees, or British protected persons
ii) Be permanently resident in a developing Commonwealth country
iii) Be available to commence their Fellowships in the United Kingdom on 1October, 2011. Any other start date will only be permitted in exceptional cases.
iv) Have been employed for at least five years as an academic staff member of a University in a developing Commonwealth country
v) Be in the employment of the nominating university

AND

vi) Hold a doctorate

OR

vii) In the fields of medicine and dentistry, have qualified as a doctor or dentist before 1 October, 2001.

Awards are tenable at any approved UK University or higher education institution for a specific programme of academic collaboration, skills updating, and networking designed to enhance teaching and future research capabilities and are not restricted to specific subject areas. Candidates are expected in advance of any fellowship application to the Commission to have made contact with up to three potential host universities in the United Kingdom and to have secured the agreement of an academic at each to act as a host for the Fellowship.

Submission of applications

Interested candidates are expected to complete Electronic Application System (EAS) and submit copies to the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), University of Ibadan on or before Wednesday 30, September, 2010.
