Office of International Programmes announces a Roundtable on Strengthening University Structures for Internationalization to be facilitated by Professor Arthur Sussman, Professor of Law, University of Chicago and Vice President of MacArthur Foundation. It is scheduled as follows:

OIP holds a Roundtable on Establishing International Collaborations for Training and Research

A Roundtable on "Establishing International Collaborations for Training and Research"organized by the Office of International Programmes took place on 9 February, 2010 at MacArthur ICT/Digital library Conference room. It was facilitated by Professor Arthur Sussman, the Vice President of MacArthur Foundation and a Visiting Professor at the Department of Public and International Law, Faculty of Law. It was attended by members of the Academic Links Board and members of the Academic Staff of various departments. The roundtable was chaired by Professor A.A.B. Agbaje, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic). Professor Sussman’s talk centred on the need for the University to have the vision of being a Mega Global University. He talked about the importance of establishing international collaborations that will be purposeful and mutually beneficial. He advised that such collaborations should be built with the experience obtained from previous ones. He also advised Grant seekers to read the terms of reference of an organization to be sure their proposal fits into it before submitting their proposals. Prof G.O.S Ekhaguere was the Lead Discussant and he talked about Mac Arthur Foundation's shift in focus from individual projects to projects that involve partnerships.

ARCIS Receives MacArthur Foundation Grant

African Regional Centre for Information Science (ARCIS), University of Ibadan, has received a grant from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation to strengthen staff and infrastructural Capacity through a collaboration between University of Ibadan and the Faculty of Information and Media Studies, University of Western Ontario, Canada. The major components of the grant are:

• Junior Academic Staff exchange for six months for training and research.
• Senior Academic Staff exchange (Snr Lecturers and above)- The exchange involves the scholars spending 3 months abroad while the scholars in the University of Western Ontario will come to Nigeria for 3 months.
• Upgrading the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure at ARCIS. The book and journal facilities of the ARCIS library will be improved.
• Development of the curriculum of a proposed undergraduate programme in Information Science, to be delivered online through the distance learning centre.

Office of International programmes welcomes Prof. Arthur Sussman, a renowned Lawyer and the Vice President and Secretary of the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, to the Department of Public and International Law, Faculty of Law, University of Ibadan. He will spend six weeks in UI to lecture graduate students on issues relating to Comparative International Law. He will be speaking at two programmes organized by OIP-

• Roundtable for prospective MacArthur Foundation Grant awardees on 9 February, 2010 at 10 am at the MacArthur Conference Room. He will be speaking on Establishing International collaborations for Training and Research.
• Roundtable for Deans, Directors and University Administrators on 10 March, 2010 at 10 am at the MacArthur Conference Room. He will be speaking on Strengthening University Structures for Internationalization.
